New Panama Canal Locks
The Panama Canal Expansion program includes
the construction of two new sets of locks - one on the Pacific and
one on the Atlantic side of the Canal. Each lock will have three
chambers and each chamber will have three water reutilization
basins. The new locks will be
427 meters long and 49 meters wide (the old locks are 304 meters
long and 32 meters wide) and therefore the locks will allow bigger Pospanamax ships to pass trough the Panama Canal. The
estimated termination date is 2014. |
